AI:AT Factory Austria

Motivation

The spread of large language models (LLMs) and AI technologies in recent years has given them a key role in transforming and expanding industries and markets, with their role continually growing. The EU-funded AI:AT project aims to develop and operate a national initiative to sustainably strengthen Austria’s AI ecosystem. The project will bring together a strong partner network, develop targeted support services and create state-of-the-art supercomputing infrastructure that will enable and empower Europe’s competitiveness, initiative, and innovation in the global field of AI. It will encourage and foster synergies with other AI initiatives throughout Europe, becoming a key building block of the European visible AI ecosystem.

Project Goals

AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – is a national initiative aimed at sustainably strengthening Austria’s AI ecosystem. Through state-of-the-art supercomputing infrastructure, targeted support services, and a strong partner network, we are laying the foundation for powerful, secure, and economically viable AI applications.

Funded by the European High Performance Computing (EuroHPC) Joint Undertaking, AI:AT makes a central contribution to Europe’s competitiveness and innovation capacity in the field of artificial intelligence.

With AI:AT, a key building block for a Europe-wide visible AI ecosystem is being created. We are fostering synergies with flagship projects such as the planned AI Center at the University of Vienna and TU Vienna, the biomedical AI institute AITHYRA, and the FWF Excellence Cluster Bilateral AI.

In this way, AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – sustainably strengthens Austria’s international position as a hub for technology and innovation.
