Artificial Intelligence Mission Austria (AIM AT) funding initiative

Motivation

We are committed to advancing Austria’s position in the global microelectronics ecosystem through the Austria Innovationsstiftung Mikroelektronik (AIM) initiative, a cornerstone of European semiconductor sovereignty. As part of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), we drive innovation in energy-efficient chips, advanced semiconductor materials, and next-generation communication technologies that are essential for Europe’s digital transformation.

Our mission is to strengthen Austria’s role as a technology leader in microelectronics, fostering collaboration between world-class research institutions and industry partners. We focus on developing cutting-edge semiconductor solutions that address critical challenges in mobility, renewable energy, and industrial digitalization. Through strategic investments and targeted support, we enable Austrian companies to compete at the forefront of silicon carbide, gallium nitride, and advanced packaging technologies.

Project Goals

Together with leading Austrian technology companies and research partners, we are:

• Building resilient semiconductor value chains that reduce European dependencies and strengthen supply chain security through local production capabilities and advanced manufacturing processes
• Accelerating green technology adoption by developing energy-efficient power electronics and chips that enable CO2 reduction in data centers, electric vehicles, and renewable energy systems
• Establishing innovation hubs for advanced IC substrates, high-performance chip packaging, and AI-supported semiconductor manufacturing that position Austria as a critical node in the European chips ecosystem
• Fostering technology transfer between academia and industry through collaborative R&D projects, ensuring rapid commercialization of breakthrough innovations in sensors, power electronics, and secure chip platforms
• Supporting SME integration into the semiconductor ecosystem through knowledge spillovers, strategic partnerships, and access to cutting-edge research infrastructure
